What information does the Endless Installer for Windows collect?

The Endless Installer for Windows uses Google Analytics to record anonymous data that allows us to improve the experience for you and other users. These are the same types of analytics already built into the Endless website and covered by our privacy policy.

The information we collect is anonymous and does not reveal your identity in any way. The following data is collected:

  • The version of the installer used.
  • The version of Windows and Internet Explorer on your computer. (The installer internally uses Internet Explorer.)
  • The manufacturer and model of your computer, and whether it has BIOS or EFI firmware. (This helps us understand hardware-specific problems.)
  • The selections made in the installer. For example: install, uninstall, create an Endless USB stick; Basic or Full version of Endless OS; how much disk space you chose to use.
  • The different screens in the installer app that you view, and when.
  • How long the process takes.
  • Any errors that happen during the process.

In order to comply with the Google Analytics terms of use, and to give you more power over your privacy settings, we have implemented two functions in the Endless Installer to help you control how your data is collected and analyzed:

If you wish to reset the unique identifier for this PC

We store a unique identifier which allows us to track different actions carried out by the same user within a period of around a day or so. If you do not want your later actions being correlated with your earlier ones, you can remove this identifier.

  • Search for “regedit” in your start menu
  • Browse to the key named “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Endless\Endless Installer\Analytics”
  • Delete the key on the right named “ClientID”

You can also instead download and merge the attached endless-installer-analytics-reset.reg.

If you wish to disable the data reporting entirely

  • Search for “regedit” in your start menu
  • Browse to the key named “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Endless\Endless Installer\Analytics”
  • Create a key named “Disable” with a DWORD value of 1

You can also instead download and merge the attached endless-installer-analytics-disable.reg.
